Ryuichi Sakamoto's solemn, rich lyricism and ambitious acoustics resonate throughout the entire album. Total 27 tracks on the album.
The film is based on an original story and screenplay by novelist and film director Hirotaka Adachi (Otsuichi), with character design by Yoshitaka Amano, known for his work on the "Final Fantasy" video game series.
Ryuichi Sakamoto said, "Cloning and other genetic manipulation technologies are advancing in the modern age, but what is being questioned there is what is "life" and what is "humanity". This is a work that deals with these questions head-on. Sakamoto explained.
I wanted the main theme to be symphonic music, which has been a staple of science fiction films since "Star Wars," and I tried to make the OST as a whole a single piece of music, not scene by scene, while keeping it dark and ambient. That said, I did include some intense sounds in the battle scenes. I really liked the OST. He also commented, "I am very happy with the OST.
