This soundtrack album for Yoji Yamada's 2015 Shochiku 120th anniversary film, "With My Mother," was his first project after a battle with mid-pharyngeal cancer that began in 2014. The director's essay in the booklet of the film mentions that Yoji Yamada and Sayuri Yoshinaga, who stars in the film, visited Ryuichi Sakamoto in person and asked him to provide the music, which he did. In addition to the classical music, which is conscious of the Japanese film tradition, Ryuichi Sakamoto also composed his first full-scale choral piece for a film, "From the Requiem for a Mother", which was released on CD as well as on a 2-CD analog vinyl set with a separate jacket.
