Ten years have passed since the excitement of "Babel"! The miraculous tag team of Iñárritu and Sakamoto has finally come to fruition.
Ryuichi Sakamoto will compose the music for "The Revenant," a new film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who revolutionized film music with "Birdman or The Unexpected Miracle of Ignorance" (winner of four Academy Awards at the 87th Academy Awards)!
Marooned in the harsh wilderness, the protagonist Hugh (Leonardo DiCaprio) vows revenge on the avenger (Tom Hardy) who left him behind. Ryuichi Sakamoto's powerful yet delicate melody, full of energy for life, dramatically enlivens the story of Hugh, who overcomes various hardships while wandering the wilds of the American West and rekindling his zest for life. Ryuichi Sakamoto's composition partner this time is Alva Noto, an electronic music prodigy and close friend of Ryuichi Sakamoto. Guests include Bryce Dessner of The National!
The great affinity between director Iñárritu and Ryuichi Sakamoto's music has already been proven in "Babel" (Best Director Award at the 59th Cannes International Film Festival), which used Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Beauty in the Blue Sky". In response to a passionate love call from Director Iñárritu, this miraculous tag team has finally come together!
The music for "The Revenant" was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Music and the North American and Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Music!
