商品説明

A film directed by François Girard and released in 2007. The film is set in various regions, including Europe, Egypt, Russia, and Japan, and Sakamoto's classical music colors the scenes depicted in the film, which is like a travelogue. In "First Trip to Japan," Sakamoto describes the journey across the Siberian snowfields to Japan, first with a melancholy melody by strings, then with a magnificent sound by horn section and cymbals, and finally with a melody by a stone flute that leads the listener into an exotic world. The stone flute has a tone reminiscent of a dragon flute, but its moderate harmonic overtones match the orchestral sound. The piano piece "Snowy Village," which is played during the scene in which the main character arrives in a snowy village in Japan, has a very long reverberation, and its lingering echoes make us feel the density and coldness of the air. The piano used throughout the film was recorded at Glenn Gould Studios in Canada, and the somewhat desolate sound may be an inheritance of Gould's spirit. The Girl," which is played during the scene in which the main character meets a woman he is attracted to in the village, is beautiful in the way the violin intertwines with the piano, which is played in a slow arpeggio, in a faint sound. The blurring and pitch fluctuations give a sense of Eastern beauty that is different from that of the West and accentuate the beauty of the woman in the silk kimono. Sakamoto created a theme song for each of the three trips to Japan, and used variations on the theme for the second and third trips in response to the changing circumstances, creating a rhythm and flow of time throughout the film. Other small pieces such as "Mill Theme" and "Building the Garden" make use of pizzicato, and the music as a whole is in line with classical manners, but the sound of "Revolution" takes a turn for the unsettling. This is a work that allows the listener to fully experience Sakamoto's many talents in the field of soundtracks.
