The Tohoku Youth Orchestra was formed in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and in 2013, approximately 400 children participated in a concert featuring world-renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel and world-renowned musicians 坂本龍一 and Yoshihide Otomo. Youth Orchestra members will hold workshops and concerts with the members of the Youth Orchestra.
The main members of the Tohoku Youth Orchestra are junior high and high school students who attend schools in the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and usually perform away from home.
Just as we were thinking that we would like to convey through the activities of the Tohoku Youth Orchestra that children in Tohoku are doing their best to live and play beautiful and strong music, the contemporary artist Shinro Ohtake agreed to support this activity and volunteered to create the words "Tohoku Youth Orchestra" on the front of the The children's uniforms for the concert were completed with "Tohoku" on the front and "Youth Orchestra" on the back.
